The version of Marble Blast Gold that came with my iMac Core Duo computer is 1.5.4.
Is there a way to download the update of the released universal binary version 1.6?
It would be really nice to be able to run the universal binary version.
Thanks

What is that version? I never heard of it. 09/30/2006 (6:06 pm)
There is a universal binary demo version labelled 1.6, so I would like to know where to obtain the updater for my PPC version. 09/30/2006 (8:24 pm)
I don't think it's available on PC. MAC only in fact. In fact, i dont think ANYONE can get it. 10/01/2006 (4:33 am)
I just need the Mac universal binary version and a way to get it. 10/02/2006 (2:53 pm)
1.6??? I WANT IT. I WANT IT. I WANT IT. 10/02/2006 (3:24 pm)
Wait, THERE'S A DEMO OUTSIDE OVER THERE? GIMME!Full version never came alive i guess.

No Matan you don't understand.1) The Intel iMac came with a version of Marble Blast Gold, labled 1.5.4, pre-installed on the hard drive.
2) This version is a PPC version, meaning it runs in emulation under Rosetta (not Intel-native)
3) Garagegames released a Universal Binary version of MBG, labled 1.6.
4) The only available linke for getting MBG 1.6 is via a Demo Version link. When I download the demo, it asks for a serial number. I don't have a serial number since MBG was pre-installed on the machine.
In other words, people who have the Intel Mac with the MBG 1.5.4 pre-installed need a way to upgrade to 1.6 without a needing a serial number. This is reasonable since the Universal Binary is SUPPOSED to run on Intels.
So where is the download link for MBG 1.6 for people who have the Intel Macs?

Be aware I asked for this (rather politely I thought) several months ago. Intel iMacs need a download link for an the updated Univeral Binary version of Marble Blast Gold (full-version, not a demo), so we can run MBG native on our computers. It seems that either GarageGames' support is non-existant, or otherwise Intel iMac users are not important enough to warrent the 5 seconds it would take to create a MBG version that works for them.

Link me to where it says 'download version 1.6 HERE'.Actually nevermind, I googled it:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/action_adventure/marbleblastgold.html
Press the download thingy on the right, it should say 'not available', but change the ftp to http and you get the download screen. Download it, open it, if it asks for serial, send me a screenshot.
Note it was posted on: August 11, 2006 , so this is from only 3-4 months ago.

Wait...so there's a demo for another marbleblast out there?EDIT: On that page it says this:
'What's New in this Version
- Now a universal binary for compatibility with both PowerPC and Intel Macs.'
Can someone put that into English for me?

From Wikipedia:A Universal binary is, in Apple Computer's parlance, an application bundle that runs natively on either PowerPC- or x86 (Intel)-based Macintosh computers. It was introduced at the 2005 WWDC as a means to ease the transition from the existing PowerPC architecture to systems based on Intel processors, which began shipping in 2006. Universal binaries typically include both PowerPC and x86 versions of a compiled application. The operating system detects a Universal binary by its header, and executes the appropriate section depending on the architecture in use. This allows the application to run natively on any supported architecture, with no performance impact.
There are two general alternative solutions. The first is to simply provide two separate binaries, one compiled for the x86 architecture and one for the PowerPC architecture. However, this can be confusing to software users unfamiliar with the difference between the two. The other alternative is to rely on emulation of one architecture by a system running the other architecture. This approach results in slower performance, and is generally regarded an interim solution to be used only until Universal binaries or specifically-compiled binaries are available. (See Rosetta.)
Universal binaries are usually substantially larger than single-platform binaries, because multiple copies of the compiled code must be stored. The size of the resulting Universal binary is usually not double as a significant portion will be non-executable resources which are shared between the two architectures. They do not require extra RAM, however, because only one of those two copies is loaded for execution.
Apple previously used a similar technique during the transition from 68k processors to PowerPC in the mid-1990s. These dual-platform executables were called 'fat binaries', referring to their larger file size.
Apple's Xcode 2.1 supports the creation of these files, a new feature in that release. A simple application developed with processor-independence in mind might require very few changes to compile as a Universal binary, but a complex application designed to take advantage of architecture-specific features might require substantial modification. Applications originally built using other development tools might require additional modification. These reasons have been given for the delay between the introduction of Intel-based Macintosh computers and the availability of third-party applications in Universal binary format. Apple's delivery of Intel-based computers several months ahead of their previously announced schedule is another factor in this gap.
Apple's Xcode 2.4 takes the concept of Universal binaries even further, by allowing four-architecture binaries to be created (32 and 64 bit for both Intel and PowerPC), therefore allowing a single executable to run on any Mac OS X machine.

I am checking around here to see whether we have released a 1.6 version. If we had, the only change would be that it would have been recompiled to run natively on Apple Intel machines. Since the windows hardware platform has not changed from x86, there would be no equivilent windows update. 11/06/2006 (4:22 pm)

Ummm......so that means that we can share demos between macs and pcs now? 11/08/2006 (12:07 pm)
No, it means that the mac demo will run natively (without emulation) on macintosh computers with intel processors. Apple recently switched their platform from Motorola's PowerPC processors to Intel's Core Duo line. Because this is a complete switch in the low-level instructions that the computers use to do calculations, it is necessary to rebuilt applications to run quickly well on the new system.
